    Just some thoughts to share. As you know, once you replace those "pretty" hinges, you'll then know how much of the bow still exists and where along the fender line. Liked your idea regarding heat and sand bags/weight. Depending upon the length of the bow, you may want to consider a full length support under hood edge along fender line to mitigate waving and have the steel fender be a template/guide for where you want the hood to sit (height-wise). Let that car cook in the southern sun, measure heat with a pyrometer so you can figure out how much heat you're going to need to reach some small/incremental change in the right direction. Google or discuss what happens to CF after being heated and cooled with water. If strength is compromised, you may want to know that. I do not know. As a hobbyist, I've done this with fiberglass using heat lamps & hand helds. I would find the temperature where the material would reach some flexibility and would stop the heat, hold in place, and sinch with water. In all cases, it took several passes, but it worked out well for me in the end. Perhaps, I got lucky. The hood is expensive and I believe you can fix it with patient testing, heat, pressure, and cooling. Best wishes, -D

    As I began shopping for a lift and realized that going from 10k to 12k switches from direct drive to chain drive, I balked a bit as I want/need the 12k. Then I thought, how are hundreds of thousands of fork-lifts (which I used to use in the workplace) doing their lifts? With chain drive. It's not the end of the world!

    • @RedlineStands

      We've got to understand that a carbon hood is not near as strong as a steel hood. The hood is fine. It's the bow being forced by the hinges that I must solve.

    That sucks man. Have you tried: A. Removing the gas struts just to see what happens? B. Placing a 1/8 inch thick shim between the hood hinge and the hood on just the back bolt closest to the firewall to raise the back edge up and readjusting? C. Trying the hood with stock hinges and low tension springs? As for the bowing, I would suggest with the hood bolted to the car and the hood hinge springs removed, latching it in the front, and then placing some sandbags on the hood where it’s bowed up in the direct sunlight to press downward. Hope you get it straightened out.

  • @BeatenRustBuckets
    @BeatenRustBuckets 6 дней назад

    Remove the hood and turn it upside down bolted to a couple of 2x4's then put a hair dryer or two under it. Make sure you put a stop so that when it goes the other way it wont hyper extend. When you do get it the way you want it I strongly recommend going with a hood prop as even a little pressure pushing up with a hot engine on a hot day when parked will bow it with any amount of gas shock. Just so you know I have been a professional laminator and boat builder for over 40 years, resulting in having built lots of race and street car parts in composite materials.

As of 6/5/24, the 2200HD is $3799 delivered, and the Handy RAM with sides and a vise is $6359 delivered. Geeze, what a pain it must be to get an engine bolted and unbolted from that monstrosity and its only rated at 2000lbs? Harbor Frieght sells a 2000lb stand and with a little ingenuity, you could fit an electric motor to it to spin it and still probably be at half the cost of a Redline product.

    • @RedlineStands
      @RedlineStands 20 дней назад

      I'm going to be straight with you on this. Harbor Freight builds garbage and over-rates the capacity of everything they build/sell. When you buy Norco, that's a lot like buying Snap-On. Folks who have been in the lift industry for years have come to understand that you get what you pay for, and there's a reason why Norco is both not-cheap, and very heavy duty. If we're comparing Norco and Harbor Freight, that's like comparing BMW and Kia, and honestly I don't think that makes any sense sir.

    • @TurboGTO288
      @TurboGTO288 20 дней назад

      @RedlineStands I don't doubt it and I'm not going to argue, I own a Redline Rotisserie and love it and own lots of Snap On tools. There IS a difference, I know. However, in Biden's economy, I can't afford much more than $200 for a stand and I own a Mig and a Tig that will fix that Harbor Frieght junk right up. I doubt I build anything that weighs more than 1000 lbs anyway. Although, I think I'd rather have a cheap Kia over a Euro BMW ... easier and cheaper to fix and less money to start out ...

    I used to live in niceville around the fort Walton and Destin area myself. That Quarts sand is amazing stuff. When you bring it back from the beach it's in your car and house for life lol. It sticks to everything. Even turns oil slicks into tar balls. And lighting loves the he'll out of it. It's a great conductor of electricity. That why things around there get wacked by lighting so much. I just wonder being it's been in salt water. If flushing it with fresh water then drying it would make it less corrosive to the metal your blasting. So you don't end up with rust under the paint job. I'm just thinking of possible salt contamination to the metal. Just possible food for thought, possibly what are your thoughts on this?

      I can tell you this for sure. At the beginning of this Nova project I blasted some parts with play sand from Home Depot. I epoxy primed one of those parts and set it outside with only primer. Years later, it looks great.

    I did it similarly in shop class 40 years ago. We dipped a hot part in a fluidized bed (a can with air pumped in the base).
